Statement of Teaching Philosophy

Role of Education

The role of education is to assist the learner in reaching their desires by delivering well-formed information. The student has the opportunity to arrive at their full potential, and with that potential will decide their future of being positive or negative outcome.

Instructor's Role

In my view, the instructor is also a guide to the students. The guide shows the student's knowledge as markers of education, as the markers become more present a path is developed. The path is always changing and modifications are made to materials to stay current with industry standards. The instructor is always undergoing an evolution when it comes to the material and education tools. The evolution of content is at an exponential rate, in order for then instructor is survive they must continue with their own education and explore new paths that can reflect back to the student.

Learner's Role

The student's role is to have the up most interest in what they learn. They build upon the base foundations that they have learned and carry that through to each avenue of their life, work, and education endeavors. They need to learn to become successful when it comes to obstacles that are presented in life and still work hard to maintain focus with their education.

Role of Evaluation

Evaluation is important in any class experience, for both sides of the spectrum the instructor and the opposite the learner. The instructor's evaluation is to provide evidence of learning, problem areas, achievement of knowledge, and the instructors' evolution. The student's evaluation is present to show the student's growths and failures, the evaluation needs to be shared with the learner. If they are evaluated but the information is not shared with the learner then the student will not know where they may improve as they fulfill their education.

Committees

  • Assessment Committee (2007-2018)

As an active member of this committee I was in charge of creating rubrics to use within milestone courses. After gathering the data, the information would be entered into an Institutional Effectiveness document. Which would lead into discussions with other faculty members and the Department Chair as to what would be the best practices for making changes to those milestone courses.

Over the timeframe, new rubrics would be created to make sure that they are current at meet the needs of the student body and the degree program.
